I'm running for Supervisor because every family deserves a future they can afford. That means safe neighborhoods, reliable transit, clean air, and a roof over their heads. I’m running for Supervisor to fight for bold climate action, reliable and resilient infrastructure, and housing policies that put working people first. Together, the next generation of leadership can build a future that leaves no one behind."
-Kyle Krahel,
Candidate for San Diego County
Supervisor, District 5

About Kyle
Kyle Krahel is a lifelong Californian, raised in Oceanside, and driven by a deep commitment to public service and progressive leadership.
He graduated valedictorian of his high school and went on to earn a degree in Government from Harvard University. That academic foundation propelled him into roles that bridge grassroots advocacy with policy implementation.
In 2025, Kyle was unanimously elected Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party. In this role, he leads strategy and operations for one of the most dynamic Democratic organizations in the country.
Kyle also serves as Deputy Chief of Staff and District Director to Congressman Mike Levin (D-CA), where he oversees constituent services and district operations, helping translate federal policy into local impact.
His earlier public service includes roles as Planning Commissioner for the City of Oceanside, where he pushed for housing solutions and responsible development, and as a staffer to Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez. Kyle also worked on several Democratic campaigns on the East Coast before returning home to California.
His policy priorities reflect his values: compassionate homelessness solutions, strong public transit, workers’ rights, education funding, and criminal justice reform.
Key Issues
Housing
I support smart growth and faster approvals to address the urgent need for housing at all income levels. We need to build responsibly near jobs and transit so families can afford to live in walkable, livable communities.

Climate
Our climate crisis has put us on a path to an unlivable planet. We need a significant reduction in our GHG emissions by 2030. California has a plan to achieve that reduction using mitigation measures, and I will work for its implementation. We also need science-based climate adaptations, such as fire prevention, flood control, beach retention, water conservation, and putting less plastic into our Ocean.

Transit
I support expanding public transit while recognizing that most San Diegans still rely on their cars. We need balanced investments that improve mobility, reduce traffic, and make commuting safer and more efficient for everyone.

Homelessness
We need to do more to connect people experiencing homelessness with mental health care, substance use treatment, and shelter. But we also have to enforce the laws already on the books and hold repeat offenders and system abusers accountable.
